Echo of Deco
Homage to one of the golden periods of the Staffordshire pottery industry.
Art Deco was primarily a decorative art movement that blossomed between the two world wars of the 20th century, from the 1920s through to the end of 1930s.
This print gives a nod to the great decorative ware designers coming out of Staffordshire during that time. Names such as Clarice Cliff, Susie Cooper, Charlotte Read and Leslie Harandine are synonymous with this period along with company names like Royal Doulton, Carlton Ware, Royal Winton, Spode, A J Wilkinson and many more creating memorable decorative ware.
The hour glass in the painting is a metaphor for the decline of the movement with Clarice Cliff dissapearing into the night, while the other clock represents a Doomsday clock with the hands nearing midnight resulting in WWII and the ending of the Art Deco movement.
